Background and Credits

The Understanding Child Development Apps have been updated and redeveloped during 2022-24 to provide free responsive digital learning resources that can be accessed anywhere, anytime and on any device to ensure social workers and social work students have access to this important content.

The  Northern Ireland Social Care Council has worked in partnership with content authors; Professor Mary McColgan, OBE, Ulster University (UU), Emerita Professor of Social Work, Professor Anne Campbell, MBE, Queen’s University Belfast (QUB) and Paul McConville, Social Services Officer, Child Safeguarding and Child Protection, Department of Health (DOH).

In 2017, the Apps won first place in the husITa Best Human Services App Award 2017, beating off stiff competition from the USA and Australia. This award recognised the Social Care Council Apps as outstanding software applications that support husITa’s mission to promote the ethical and effective use of information technology to better serve humanity.
