Promoting Good Nutrition

Welcome to Promoting Good Nutrition. This digital resource aims to support social care workers better understand what good nutrition is and how to support individuals who may be at risk of malnutrition and dehydration.

This digital learning resource has been developed and updated by the NI Social Care Council in partnership with social care employers (BHSCT, NHSCT and SEHSCT), the Northern Trust led Regional Prescribing Support Dietetic Team and Public Health Agency (PHA).

It was originally developed to support the Domiciliary Care Transformation (Confidence and Supply Fund) Project and DoH, Promoting Good Nutrition Strategy and had been updated to include content on COVID-19 to support social care workers during the pandemic. It also includes links to our new Eating, Drinking and Swallowing Difficulties - Dysphagia Awareness Training and Resource page.

As a social care worker you play a very important role as you may be the first person to notice when a person is not getting all the food and fluids they need to stay healthy. This resource aims to provide information about what a nutritious diet is and what to do if you suspect someone may be at risk of malnutrition and/or dehydration because they are not getting enough food or fluids to stay healthy.
