The resource can also be used by professionals working in education, youth and community work, early years/childcare, health and social care and parents/care givers.

Background and Credits

The content of this resource has been reviewed and updated during 2022/23 by the Northern Ireland Social Care Council in partnership with the DoH, led by Paul McConville, Social Services Officer, Child Safeguarding and Child Protection, other DoH colleagues from LAC & Adoption Policy Unit, Professor Mary McColgan, OBE, Emerita Professor of Social Work (Ulster University) and Professional Anne Campbell, MBE (Queen’s University Belfast).

The content of this resource was first developed during 2014-15 as part of a series of three Understanding Child Development Mobile Apps by the Northern Ireland Social Care Council in partnership with UU (Professor Mary McColgan) and QUB (Professor Anne Campbell) content authors and the Understanding Child Development Steering Group to support social workers.

In 2017, the Apps won first place in the husITa Best Human Services App Award 2017, beating off stiff competition from the USA and Australia. This award recognised the NISCC Apps as outstanding software applications that support husITa’s mission to promote the ethical and effective use of information technology to better serve humanity.

The Department for Health (DoH) funded the development of the App series.
